Non-toxic concealer – RMS “Un” Cover-up Review

As a makeup artist my first focus when applying makeup on myself, a model or a client is creating healthy beautiful skin. The skin is the canvas that everything else is painted on and if it’s not flawless (I use the term flawless loosely in a human way not in a cartoon airbrushed version of a human – I’m talking to you advertisers) then nothing else will be. After a healthy lifestyle and a clean non-toxic skincare routine, the next step in creating gorgeous glowing skin is your foundation and concealer. Good news! The RMS “Un” Cover-up is both! A 2 in 1 hybrid product that ticks all the non-toxic, eco boxes.  Consisting of only 7 products, all of which one can pronounce and 5 that are organic, the nourishing raw mineral pigment is packaged in a recyclable glass container with a metal lid.  I’m seriously impressed with this product! Here’s my review….

Product Description:
A creamy concealer/foundation made with natural ingredients that are actually good for you.

What they say:
“Formulated to reveal and enhance healthier looking skin…not just cover it up. Completely lightweight and hydrating to the skin, the ‘un’cover-up will reveal more youthful and radiant skin. Minimizes the appearance of pores and rejuvenates the skin.” – rmsbeauty.com

Key Ingredients:

Ingredients: *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, *Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, *Cera Alba (Beeswax), *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, *Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopherol(non-GMO), *Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, and may contain: [+/- Titanium Dioxide CI 77891, Iron Oxides CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499] * CERTIFIED ORGANIC

What I say:

Pros: Creamy consistency that’s not too dry or too oily. Looks like skin in consistency and color and is easy to work with. RMS “Un” Cover-up leaves my skin looking even, fresh and dewy like a beautiful spring morning. I don’t feel like I have on foundation at all.

Cons: Needs to be set with a powder. Try the “un” powder from RMS.  If using as a foundation there’s not much product in the tub, but a little does go a long way. And as much as I adore coconut oil it is comedogenic (meaning it has a tendency to clog pores if your skin is that way inclined) so be aware when using on the delicate under-eye skin.

Pro Tip:

Less really is more. Start by covering up any discolouration using your fingers tips to warm up the product. Under the eye, around the nose and any blemishes. Then blend with a dense short bristled brush like the Skin2Skin Foundation Brush from RMS.  Finish by warming up the palms of your hands (make sure they are clean and dry) then press them gently into your cheekbones and chin to melt the product perfectly into your skin.  You will need to touch up midday but that’s such a small price to pay for keeping those pesky parabens and silicones off your delicate skin and out of your endocrine system. Don’t forget that everything you put on your skin is absorbed into your body.

Update: I’ve discovered if I use an oil on may face before application the RMS “Un” Cover-up goes on better than without and has a beautiful sheer finish.

In Conclusion:

Whether you want a little or a lot of coverage RMS “Un” Cover-up has got you covered!

EWG Rating:

1  Which is good.  Check out there rating here.

Before – My biggest issue with my skin is the pigmentation – Thanks pregnancy hormones! I had the baby 6 years ago now leave me alone dark spots!

After – You can still see a little bit of the pigmentation but I don’t like full coverage foundation and I’m not a perfectly airbrushed super model, I’m real live human lady and I’m ok with a few imperfections (most days anyway). I really like the way this product feels. Bonus points for the fact that if I have a late night and “forget” to wash my face I don’t mind leaving these ingredients on my skin overnight.
